Fill two clear jars with different amounts of the same object (dry pasta, cotton balls). "Which has more?" Then count to check. Shrink the difference over time until it's a real challenge.

Five is the kindergarten-readiness year, and the math gets genuinely exciting. The most common "math problem" in preschool is not a real math problem — it is a child whose counting was rushed past one-to-one correspondence, or who has only ever met math on a worksheet where it felt wrong. 1.Should my 3-year-old be writing numbers?
No — and there is no need. At three, children are still building the fine-motor control for writing and, more importantly, the *understanding* of quantity behind the symbols. Writing numerals typically lands closer to age five. For a three-year-old, the higher-value work is one-to-one counting with real objects ("one cracker for you, one for you") and naming shapes. If your three-year-old loves making marks, let them scribble-write freely — but treat number-writing as a five-year-old skill, not a three-year-old goal.
2.How much math per day is enough for a preschooler?
Far less than most parents assume.
